While we’re waiting with bated breath for a possible new updated Nintendo DS model that has been rumored, we thought we would take a look at some of our favorite DS mods. Like the Wii, modders love to spice up Nintendo’s boring design and put their own personal touches on the device. Some are weird, some are awesome, some will make you wonder what’s in the modder’s local water supply, but all are creative.

NES business card holders
What better way to proclaim your love of 8-bit gaming then with these NES business card holders. I’m not sure how serious you’ll be taken when you whip it out and hand out your card, but at least a little bit of Nintendo is with you at all times.

They retail for $8.80 with your choice of Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Ice Climber or Balloon Fight and Famicom controller versions. Judging by the pic, these are more of a NES glaucoma test.

Holy Triforce: SNES Zelda mod is awesome
As far as I can tell from this guy’s French converted into my bad english, he was inspired by the Japanese version of the console. And of course, inspired by the Zelda games. Notice the beautiful blue light coming out from beneath making it look like it’s on some alien pedestool, the nicely rounded edges of the case and Link’s sword, yes Link’s sword sticking out of the case like Excalibur.

The creator also gave it a super slick mirror-like finish. I have to say, all that shiny Zelda green and gold makes for a dramatic effect. That my friends is a job well done. It belongs in a Nintendo museum somewhere.

Interactive 8-bit gamer’s Valentine’s shirts
Are you the kind of couple that dress up as Zelda and Link and hit the convention circuit? Maybe you’re the type of person who can’t get enough Twilight Princess game time in, and when you do, you pick up as many hearts as possible, even if your heart containers are full, all the while thinking about your significant other.

If that describes you and your main squeeze, I have your new shirts right here. These shirts come in pairs and during the normal course of whatever the hell it is you do, two and a half pixelated hearts will light up. But when you get within hugging distance of your significant other geek wearing the matching shirt, suddenly the hearts on both shirts light up until you’re fully powered up.
