IBM is planning Traffic Lights to stop your car for you

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on May 25th, 2010

Would you like it if your car did the stopping for you at traffic lights? IBM is developing a technology that will automatically cut your engine at a red light. I’m thinking that people don’t want to give up that much control.

The patent proposes that the system would collect positioning data from cars stopped at a red light. After a given amount of wait time, a “stop-engine” notification would be sent to the vehicles, with a “start-engine” notification to follow when the light changes back to green.

Car key stops teenagers from using mobile phones while driving

Car key stops teenagers from using mobile phones while drivingThere’s nothing worse then a driver who is too busy running their mouth on a cellphone and not paying attention to the road. Or the other cars. Teenage drivers in particular love to get distracted by their mobile phones. Well, University of Utah engineers have designed a wireless car key device that stops users from talking on their cell phone or sending text messages while behind the wheel.

Each driver of a car will have a separate key device. When the key is extended from the device, it emits a signal that puts the teenagers phone in “Driving Mode,” so that they can’t use it and kill you. In driving mode the phone will display a stop sign and hopefully the death loving teen will get in the habit of leaving the phone alone while driving.

SnorePro shuts you up with an electric shock

SnorePro shuts you up with an electric shockAre you or your spouse a snorer? Let them know that you’ve had enough of their noise by buying them the SnorePro SP600. It knows when you’re snoring away and sends a mild electric shock to get you to shut your pie-hole. It even features a built-in snore counter.

The idea is to train snorers to stop by using biofeedback. There’s no pricing info, but the site says SnorePro is “coming soon.” And it’s guaranteed to be the feel good gadget of the year for those who sleep with snorers. IF it works.
