Posted in Speakers by Conner Flynn on April 5th, 2011

One look at this wireless speaker and you just know it is for the elderly. It looks like luggage more than a speaker. Pioneer has introduced this new Wireless TV Speaker for Japan that will boost your TV sound output and allow the elderly to better hear music without having to turn their TV volume up and bother the rest of us.

This VMS-700-K will be available in Japan in May for around 20,000 Yen. It features two 50mm diameter speakers with a 1Wx2Ch total output on a 100Hz-20kHz bandwidth. The internal nickel hydrogen battery offers 13 hours of battery life and it has a wireless range of 30m max.

Emporia Life Plus handset for Grandma
It’s a good idea to get the seniors in your life a phone that’s easy for them to use. Emporia’s Life Plus is the latest of elderly friendly phones that cater to those over 50 years old. It weighs 138 grams, with 250 hours of standby time, has a “super loud” handsfree speaker, oversized display and buttons, an integrated flash light, even a Hearing Aid compatible earpiece.

Another interesting feature is the single press ICE (‘In Case of Emergency’) number dial/emergency SMS. For those, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up moments. They just need to work on meeting a senior’s budget, because at £144.67, it’s a bit expensive.
