Softbank and ZTE team up for Senior Citizen Smartphone

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on February 9th, 2011

Calling this a smartphone is not entirely accurate, but it isn’t stupid either. Simplicity is the focus here. This tracking device is meant for senior citizens and young children, to keep them safe. That large button in the center is for emergencies. Just press it and it will send an email and a notification to your relatives informing them where you are.

If you want to be tracked, just pull the cord on top and a sound is emitted, aiding the responder in reaching you.

Senior Citizen cell phone with big numbers and SOS panic button

A cell phone for seniors is almost a contradiction. Sure, we can make the buttons bigger and do all kinds of other things, but that ain’t gonna stop grandpa from flushing it down the crapper when he gets Alzheimers. Nevertheless, I guess we still have to try.

And so here’s another cellphone meant for Senior Citizens, complete with big numbered buttons, a torch light for when they get lost at night, FM radio, and a SOS button which can be programmed to dial four emergency numbers and send text messages to those numbers programmed into the cellphone. When you press the SOS button in an Emergency situation, the phone will issue a loud warning sound and automatically send broadcast messages to the default phone numbers programmed in.
