The new SGPT113JP/S and SGPT114JP/S tablets that just passed through the FCC are variants of the S1 tablet, the 9.4-inch tablet with Android 3.x Honeycomb and custom-made “Quick and Smooth” UI and “Swift” web browser.

Other features include 2.4GHz 802.11n WiFi and WCDMA bands II and V radios, and an Ericsson F5521gw HSPA+ capable modem that’s mentioned. The PlayStation Certified tablet will arrive later in the fall for an unknown price.

Sony announces S1 and S2 dual-screen Honeycomb tablets

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on April 26th, 2011

Sony has announced a pair of Android 3.0 tablets. The first is the 9.4-inch S1 media tablet (also known as the Qriocity focused) with a curved top similar to a folded book or magazine with both front and rear cameras. The S1 features a Tegra 2 SoC and customized “Quick and Smooth” touch panel UI with “Swift” web browser. As a bonus, it can also be used as a remote for your Sony gadgets, which is handy.

The dual-screen device looks like a sexed up 3DS. That’s the S2, which features a pair of 5.5-inch 1,024 x 480 pixel displays, Tegra 2 SoC, and a camera. It uses a custom book-style UI layout for the e-reader app, email and others. Both are PlayStation Certified and are WiFi and 3G/4G “compatible”. I can’t wait to see what Sony does with gaming on a tablet. How will these interact with the PS3? We should see a release in the fall, maybe sooner.

Sony to Sell Android Tablet by End of Summer?

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on April 4th, 2011

Remember the Sony tablets from a few months ago? This might be one of them. The news is that Sony plans to release a tablet computer by the end of this summer, according to Chief Executive Officer Howard Stringer.

The tablet will run Google’s Android 3.0 Honeycomb software, and will be arrive in the U.S. market first. We don’t know for sure if it’s the S1 tablet or something else entirely, but we should know more soon since it’s hard to keep a secret these days.

Sony ‘S1’ PlayStation gaming tablet

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on February 16th, 2011

Looks like Sony has been working on a couple of tablets. Come on, you knew they had to get into the game eventually right? The first is a 9.4-inch Android 3.0 tablet known as the “S1” (codename). Sony has been busy customizing Matias Duarte’s Honeycomb interface to its own specification. And Sony’s work is said to be cutting edge, created by an engineering team spanning Sony’s VAIO, Reader, PlayStation, and Sony Ericsson product groups.

Though the team is lead by the VAIO organization, it will probably launch without VAIO branding. It is also said that Sony’s custom-built transitions and UI elements have created a user experience that sometimes rivals and improves on the iPad’s. The tablet is 100 percent focused on Qriocity, Sony’s music, games, ebooks, and videos on demand service that’s just been launched in Europe.

Acer has announced its new S1 Series LCD displays, which are extremely thin and eco-friendly. Available display sizes range from 18.5-inch to 23-inches and just 13mm-15mm thin. That’s so thin, you’ll want to feed it. You can expect low environmental impact, thanks to the use of eco-friendly materials and low power consumption.

These displays offer VGA and DVI ports with HDCP encryption, an HDMI port (on the 21 and 23-inch models), a 12,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 5ms response time, and full HD resolution.

You can tell just by looking that these phones come out of Denmark. In all, three sexy additions to the Android lineup from Lumigon Corp. The T1 and S1 are both shipping before July, the S1 offering a sliding T9 keypad. Both feature Android 2.1, Freescale processors, 720p output over HDMI, FM tuning and broadcasting, and the ability to act as a universal remote when you are just chillin.

The E1 is arriving later with a “unique navigation system and shape never experienced in mobile phones.” No pictures have been released just yet, but judging by what we see above, it should be beautiful.

Apple’s announcement of their tablet is a few days away so manufacturers are trying to get their versions out first. And so DigitalRise has released the S1 Slate, a cheaper version of its multitouch X9. Most of us will likely still wait a few days to see what Apple’s has, but here’s a look at what this $630 tablet offers. It does look nice.

Some specs include an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard disk, 10.2-inch display at 1024 x 600 resolution, 3000mAh lithium-ion battery, 1.3 megapixel webcam, Wi-Fi and Windows 7. Is it an Apple tablet killer? Doubt it, but we will know soon.

Land Rover S1 phone stomped by Elephants, ran over with Land Rover

Land Rover phones by Sonim TechnologiesDon’t believe that the Sonim/Land Rover S1 phone is the toughest phone? Well, it can stand up to being stomped on by an elephant and it survives being run over by an actual Land Rover as well as getting thrown out of a second floor window.

Oh and it also survived being dunked in mud, cooked in a 300 degree oven, and soaked in beer. After all of that, it was a three ton forklift that finally killed it.

BlueAnt S1 Sun Visor Bluetooth Car Kit Review

Posted in Review by Shane McGlaun on June 19th, 2009

blueants1-sb1I am not a big fan of Bluetooth headsets. I don’t really care for the way they look in your ear and I don’t like how they feel. Recently I bought a car with a convertible top and a manual transmission and I decided it was time for a hands free device. It’s nearly impossible to drive a 5-speed in traffic and talk on the phone without a hands free device. Today I am going to look at the BlueAnt S1 Sun visor Bluetooth car kit. Read on for all the details on the BlueAnt S1.
