Federation issue Dustbuster / Star Trek: TNG phaser

Posted in Sci-Fi by Conner Flynn on June 22nd, 2010

There’s a reason you don’t see dust in the corridors of the starship Enterprise. Turns out those phasers actually double as Dustbusters. Okay, not really. But this Dustbuster is crafted as a replica of the hand phaser from Star Trek: the Next Generation.

Interestingly, these prop weapons were nicknamed Dustbusters on set because of their familiar shape. This replica is much more than a hand vacuum, though. It has realistic LED lighting and sound effects and it’s intricately crafted by the original prop masters to look exactly like the ones used in the TV series.

Remote Ray Gun channel changer
If you want a remote that says, “Freeze or I’ll turn your planet to rubble.”, or “Flash Gordon refuses to watch this crap any longer.” then this is for you.

Ray guns were a staple of Sci-Fi from the 40’s through the 60’s, isn’t it about time you changed channels with one? Damn straight. Cuz geeks are all about pretend, even when they’re watching some other people pretending to cruise through space on T.V. The price won’t zap you at only $18, but you’ll need to wait until August 16th when it’s available. This is great for fighting robots.

Classic Star Trek phaser stuns us

Classic Star Trek phaser
Who doesn’t love the Star Trek phaser in any of it’s forms? This one may not be the version that shoots real dangerous light, but if you take this baby with you to a convention and point it at another trekkie, you’ve got some great geek on geek action happening.

Of course, this phaser uses light and sounds to create a real weapon like feel. It’s a full scale reproduction model of the original Star Trek prop, with the original 2-in-1 design with detachable mini hand phaser. It shouldn’t be any tribble at all to pick one up for $27.99. Just remember to always keep it on the stun setting. Safety first.

I don’t blame you, from Yeoman Rand to Tasha Yar, to Beverly Crusher and beyond, there’s some hot babes gallivanting around in the final frontier. Before we get so easily sidetracked, back to the theme. Star Trek gadgets and tech. Some you can own, some are in the works and some are just strange.

Working Blu-ray phaser from PS3The mission for “Star Trek” has always been to boldly go where no one has gone before, to seek out new life and new civilizations but really, we all just wanted the cool gadget that Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock got to play with. We’ve turned our mobile phones into things that resemble those neat palm-sized communicators the Enterprise crew had and we’re working on the transporter next. For those fans that really want to own a piece of the Enterprise there are models, props and toys made to resemble Starfleet’s best including a toy model of “Star Trek”‘s futuristic gun, a phaser. But why hasn’t some toy company made a phaser that actually emits a laser beam when you fire it? You think that with the low cost of today’s lasers that some toy manufacturer would have leapt on this idea. Leave it to one creative individual to make our geek dreams come true!
