Barnes and Noble has announced some interesting numbers. Since the 25th of December customers have ordered 150% more subscriptions than the total number sold over the entire previous 12 months. It amounts to a massive 650,000 in just two months.

This figure includes digital periodical subscriptions and single-issue e-magazines and e-newspapers from the NOOKnewsstand to NOOKcolor owners. Those are impressive numbers. No figures were released as to the number of NookColor devices that have been sold but the company says that sales “continue to be very strong.”

Read Kindle books on your hacked NOOKcolor

Rooting a device will allow you to install any app you want on it. It’s a pretty useful trick if you have the know-how. And now the Barnes & Noble NOOKcolor has fallen victim to this. The result is a NOOKcolor that allows you to read Kindle books. How do you like that irony?

Obviously Barnes & Noble is not happy about this. It doesn’t just stop at Amazon’s Kindle app, though. The rooting process in this case also added Gmail, YouTube and some other Android tricks to the NOOKcolor.
