Facebook gets more Twittery with Lite and tags

Posted in Facebook by Darrin Olson on September 11th, 2009

Facebook Lite launched along with status taggingWe all know Facebook is continuously evolving, and just recently the social networking behemoth made some announcements that will likely make its popularity even larger, partly by making things smaller. On Thursday Facebook launched Facebook Lite, which is basically a scaled down version of the current Facebook site. Existing users can log onto Facebook Lite and it even uses the same cookies to recognize you if you are already logged in. All you friends are there and you can post messages, but it’s just got a little fewer “pieces of flare” about it.

The idea for Facebook Lite is to make a slimmer version of Facebook, not too unlike Twitter, that more people could use in places that have limited access to bandwidth, so the pages are not so “heavy” to load. So far the site is ironically only available in the U.S. and India, but I suppose they have to test it out somewhere. Chances are it will be rolling into some more obscure areas of the world soon.

reviveLITE charges your iPhone, wards off monsters

reviteLITE charges your iPhone, wards off monstersThis is truly an odd combo. An iPhone charger paired with that age old way of keeping monsters at bay, a night-lite. It’s a great idea. Should the lite fail for any reason, you can call for help with the monsters. They should have had this when we were kids.

The reviveLITE will certainly make you feel confident enough to sleep with your foot out of the covers and danging over the edge of the bed. It was developed by Scosche Industries, and will charge any and all iPods and iPhones. All you have to do is plug it into a wall outlet and you are safe. The darkness coming from your open closet is a whole other story.

Butt-on protects you from the dark with glowing cheeks

Butt-on protects you from the dark with glowing cheeksIt’s as if a mild mannered tiny person accidentally sat in a vat of uranium, became a superhero with a glowing butt and burrowed into your wall socket defending you against the darkness. Pinch on. Squeeze off. It’s the cheekiest night light ever. The only way it gets better is if it released an array of scents and made fart jokes. It’s a concept by designer Ashish Chaudhary.

11 cool Nintendo DS mods

Obama DS Lite
While we’re waiting with bated breath for a possible new updated Nintendo DS model that has been rumored, we thought we would take a look at some of our favorite DS mods. Like the Wii, modders love to spice up Nintendo’s boring design and put their own personal touches on the device. Some are weird, some are awesome, some will make you wonder what’s in the modder’s local water supply, but all are creative.

Nintendo DS lite sound shell boosts audio

Nintendo DS lite sound shell
Gametech’s Sound Shell DLite not only gives your sound a boost, but it ensconces your DS in a bulky armor cocoon that makes it look like it’s ready for war. It snaps on around your DS Lite and gives it a serious upgrade in the audio department. The bulk is due to the amplified speakers and the battery compartment that powers them.

Still, it will protect your DS nicely in addition to the sound benefits, so I guess the added size is a trade off. It will cost you about $30. Forget the fact that it’s got a sort of…orthopedic shoe type of fugliness going on. I like the concept, hopefully they can streamline it just a tad.
