Hands On: Fretlight Guitar makes it easy to learn guitar

Posted in Review by Conner Flynn on April 16th, 2010

The folks who make the Fretlight guitar learning system wanted us to check it out and see for ourselves how easy it is to learn guitar with their system. The basic idea is that the frets of the guitar light up. That, along with an interactive learning system which includes videos and tutorials are supposed to make it easy.

Since my son has been learning how to play guitar by more or less teaching himself, I figured he was the perfect candidate. So they sent us the whole kit and my son checked it out. How good is it at teaching you to play the guitar? His review follows:

Talking Robo helps you learn new languages

Posted in Robots by Conner Flynn on January 11th, 2010

Learning a new language isn’t something you do in five minutes. It takes time and practice. But having a robot help you may speed things up. TalkingRobo is a personal robot that can teach you to speak a new language. The bot features speech recognition and understands natural language when you talk to it. He is nice enough to suggest what topics to talk about so you can practice. He also has face recognition so more than one user can use him and he will recognize your face and understand your user profile. In short, he will be your new bestest buddy.

Those aren’t his only tricks either. He can recognize images. If you show it an image of an airplane, for example, it will give you the correct pronunciation of airplane, which seems like a great way to learn. Some other features include a Beam projector for displaying novels and watching movies, English dictionary and Encyclopedia, internet connectivity for updates and you can use it remotely to keep an eye on your home if you like too.

Learn guitar with lasers

Posted in Musical Instruments by Conner Flynn on February 4th, 2009

Learn guitar with lasersYou want to be a Guitar Hero, but you don’t know any songs. Just attach this Maestro device onto your guitar, load a music file of the song you want to learn and it will point out the frets you need to hit, using lasers. As any rock god will tell you, guitars and lasers are an awesome combination.

But just be warned, if you suck, no amount of lasers are going to stop you from sucking. You still have to strum and finger the frets. But it does seem like a great way for guitar players to learn songs quickly. If this concept ever gets made, it would probably do really well.
