HBO Go app for Android & iOS

Posted in movies by Conner Flynn on April 19th, 2011

HBO has a ton of great original programming. So it is good news that it has announced the HBO Go streaming service is finally going to go mobile. If you are a subscriber, you will get “instant and unlimited access” to “every episode of every season” of every HBO show. How awesome is that?

The app for Android and iOS will also include a wide range of great movies, over 3G and WiFi. It’s for the US only though. Good news for us, not so good for everyone else.

HBO hits the iPad and mobile devices in six months

If you need a dose of True Blood on your iPad, you won’t have long to wait. In an interview with Bloomberg, HBO Co-President Eric Kessler made an off-hand comment that in six month’s time, HBO Go would be available “through all major cable systems, on Apple’s iPad, on mobile devices and elsewhere,”.

It would be free for those of you who already are signed up to HBO. Aside from that, the company still has a cold attitude toward Netflix. Having HBO go portable sounds good to us.

I play many games on the PS3 with my kids, but that is all I really use the device for other than watching movies. We never use the PlayStation Network for anything other than the occasional online Motorstorm race. Sony and HBO has announced that you will soon be able to get premium HBO shows on the PlayStation Network.

The programs being offered will include some of the most popular HBO programs available like True Blood, Big Love, Entourage, The Sopranos and many more. There are multiple seasons of many of the shows available for purchase.

HBO shows show up on iTunes

HBO episodes available for download on iTunesiTunes has officially started offering HBO series episodes available for download online through iTunes. This is a welcome announcement for many who would love to get episodes of the Sopranos, The Wire and Flight of the Conchords onto their PMP’s, but it comes at a price.

The price is actually what makes this announcement most interesting. Apple, who seems to have previously been with the belief that all series shows are priced equally, seems to have made a concession with HBO. The series episodes of the Sopranos is priced at $2.99 each, which is a whole dollar more than the usual $1.99 rate for a TV show.
