Cabestan Nostromo watch is full of gears

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on March 16th, 2010

The Cabestan Nostromo watch is one of those watches that you stare at in amazement and picture all of those gears turning. It was inspired by the ship from the Alien movie, hence the name. The Nostromo combines traditional watchmaking with “retro-futuristic audacity”‘

I can only assume that that describes the titanium case and Superluminova phosphorescent coating. You know this one is going to cost you quite a bit.

Steampunk guitar with clockwork gears, a lot of brassThe Steampunk phenomenon just keeps chugging along. Here’s a little something for you Guitar Hero players who wish they featured a Victorian rocker with period guitar. This is what such a guitar might look like. It was built for the 2008 Jersey City Artists Studio Tour by Mark Dalzell, and it’s called Organum Insolitus.

It features a television with Fresnel lens magnifier, onboard phaser, an amplifier and uses clockwork gears, hand hammered brass, cloth wire and wood. The guitar can be attached to an external amp with a standard ¼-inch cable, so you can really use this.

Shifter faucet lets you change gears

Shifter faucet lets you change gears from hot to coldIs your faucet a stick or an automatic? Well, now you can have a stick shift on your sink thanks to this classy-looking design. That’s right, you can now change gears on your faucet. It’s pretty stylish and will leave other faucets in the dust.

The idea is that it would allow you to shift up the amount of water coming out of the faucet. Or down. Which is great for people looking to conserve water by staying in lower “gears,” but we can’t see how the temperature is controlled so this may be a big bust. Sure, it looks awesome, but that doesn’t count for anything if all you get is cold water.
