White Galaxy S II leaks

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 29th, 2011

The white Samsung Galaxy S II has been spotted. This leaked snap appears just one day after a UK retailer promised that it would go on sale August 15th. We don’t know if that’s true, but we know that you can now sign-up for “more info” on Samsung’s website.

In any event US fans of this phone should be hearing more from the company soon. So do you like your phones in white or black? Or do you want another color entirely?

Samsung Galaxy S II Coming To The US In August

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 20th, 2011

Samsung has to be very happy about sales of their new Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone in Europe and other countries. They have already sold more than 3 million S II handsets, but in the US, Samsung still hasn’t released it.

Now it looks like we may have a firm launch date. According to the president of Samsung mobile, Shin Jong-Kyun, the Galaxy S II will arrive in the US in August, but we still don’t know an exact date. To refresh your memory, the Samsung Galaxy S II features a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, and also comes with a dual core 1.2GHz processor, 16GB of built in storage and a microSD card slot.

Samsung Galaxy S II / Galaxy Within for Sprint spotted?

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 17th, 2011

Many believe that Sprint and other US carriers are preparing releases of branded handsets based on the Galaxy S II, Samsung’s successor to the Galaxy S. Now some new shots seem to support this rumor. One shows the textured back of a device bearing both Sprint and Samsung logos along with an 8 megapixel camera.

The texture and camera are similar to what we’re expecting from S II-based models, so it makes sense. It might be called the Galaxy Within when it launches within days or weeks. It will probably be marketed as a high-end alternative to the EVO 3D that swaps 3D support for Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus display tech.

Samsung Galaxy S II hits 3 million pre-orders

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on May 8th, 2011

Samsung is celebrating tonight as they have announced that they have reached up to three million pre-orders worldwide for its dual-core Android phone by the end of April, when it went on sale in Korea. Orders were expected to only go up like this as the phone reached global scale and peaked at 120 countries.

I’d call that a success. In Samsung’s home country, it sold 120,000 of the phones in the first few days. The company had initially predicted 10 million Galaxy S IIs shipping for the entire year. These numbers will level off, but they help Samsung threaten competitors like Apple.

Samsung takes 200K Galaxy S II pre-orders, passes iPhone 4

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on May 3rd, 2011

Samsung has to be quite happy with the Galaxy S II. The company has taken over 200,000 pre-orders across all three major Korean carriers between Monday of last week and the launch on Friday. 160,000 of these were at the country’s largest carrier, SK Telecom.

It gets even more impressive. The pre-orders passed 10,000 units in the first 29 minutes and doubled that in over an hour. This surpasses iPhone 4 pre-orders last August and sets a new high for Apple to beat.

Samsung Galaxy S II available May 1st in the UK

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on April 11th, 2011

Samsung has some good news for you Brits. The Samsung Galaxy S II will be available on May 1st in the United Kingdom. This smartphone features a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, so this is likely the Exynos 4210 version of this handset.

Our friends across the pond can’t wait and now there is at least a firm date. We aren’t sure when the rest of Europe will get it, but when we know we will pass it along.

Samsung launching Galaxy S II Tegra 2 version?

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on February 17th, 2011

Looks like Samsung may be getting ready to launch a Tegra 2-based version of the Galaxy S II smartphone, for select markets. There are some good reasons to suspect that this is the case. The company has been collaborating with NVIDIA to create a new handset based on Tegra 2, and yet the Galaxy S II was the main focus of its Mobile World Congress unveilings.

Samsung hasn’t officially said that this is the case and the MWC version uses the company’s own dual-core Exynos SoC, but the official specs lists the Samsung SoC as a feature that “may not be applicable in some regions.” So, putting 2 and 2 together, it looks like there will be a Tegra 2 version.
