Motorola Defy+ rumored for AT&T

Posted in Motorola by Reuben Drake on July 21st, 2011

Word is that a slightly upgraded version of Motorola’s Defy Android smartphone may soon arrive at AT&T. If this rumor turns out to be accurate, the handset will get support for 850MHz, 1,900MHz and 2,100MHz HSPA bands, which are used by AT&T and some Canadian carriers.

Differences from the original device are said to include a 1GHz OMAP 3620 processor instead of the 800MHz CPU, and Android 2.3.3. Aside from that, RAM, storage space, camera specs and the 3.7-inch display should remain the same.

Motorola has confirmed a North American version of the Defy for T-Mobile. The rugged Android phone will ship by the holidays and is also getting some show time on the Oprah Winfrey Show today apparently. It’s being called a US exclusive for the carrier.

The Defy is one of the first touch-only phones to be designed this rugged. It has resistance to dust, scratching and water, and is also the fastest with an 800MHz TI OMAP chip. It runs Android 2.1 with the full Motoblur social networking layer on top and currently only supports Flash Lite for a plugin. It also has a typical 3.7-inch display, a five-megapixel camera, GPS and Wi-Fi, but its outdoorsy design gives it a dual microphone that reduces wind noise and other background sounds.

Motorola unveils rugged Motorola Defy

Motorola has just outed another rugged Android-powered phone in the form of the Motorola Defy. How rugged is it? Well, it sports 3.7-inches of Gorilla Glass for one thing.

There’s also its IP67 compliance, which means it is good in up to a meter of water for up to half an hour. That’s pretty tough. The Defy will launch across Europe in Q4. Some other specs include an 800MHz processor, Android 2.1, Swype keyboard and a 5-megapixel camera with flash.
