SpinChill: Cold Beer in 60 Seconds

Posted in Coolers by Tam Yue on May 23rd, 2014

SpinChillTake two really smart Mechanical Engineers from the University of Florida, give them a luke warm beer and they come up with a brilliant idea. They used their knowledge of engineering, heat transfer and their love of cold beer to come up with the SpinChill.

They found that cooling a container of liquid in a tub of ice took much longer than if that container was constantly spinning. The reason for this has to do with heat transfer. If the container is just sitting in the ice the outside layer of the liquid cools and it insulates the inner liquid which slows down the overall cooling process. By spinning the container it allows the warm liquid in the center to reach the outer edge where it can be cooled instantly.

Wearing a suit and tie in the office can make for a hot day, but with Thanko’s latest offering, you can cool down while wearing your monkey suit. The USB-powered necktie clip cooler is just $35. Sadly it’s only available to those in Japan though.

I guess the rest of us will just have to sweat a bit longer. The device is powered by either USB or a battery. Just clip it to your tie and it will send fresh air your way. This is basically just a computer fan mounted on your tie.

Dr. Cool Router Cooler

Posted in Routers by Conner Flynn on April 26th, 2011

This device keeps your router cool, while making it look dorky. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have a problem with my router overheating. This new device comes from Evercool and is called Dr. Cool. It is apparently the first patented router cooler ever. Not that anyone needs one.

It cools more than just routers too. If your router is fine, this device will also cool other gadgets like your netbook or your tablet. And make them look just as dorky. The clamps are adjustable and will grab onto your gadget like a huge white parasite. Who wants one?

Luxa2 M4 Laptop Cooler with Swarovski crystals and polished aluminium

Posted in Coolers by Conner Flynn on February 17th, 2010

So laptop manufacturers should really be making their products good enough so that you don’t need to buy a separate cooler, but since we live in an imperfect world, we still need to buy them. And if you are the type that loves Gucchi, Prada and needs everything decked out in crystals and sparkle this would be your laptop cooler of choice.

This Luxa2 M4 Laptop Cooler is USB powered and will cost you just $49.99. It may not say Fendi, Prada or Gucchi, but it does have Swarovski crystals.

Wii Ultimate Power Station

Posted in Wii Accessories by Conner Flynn on August 11th, 2009

We can’t decide is this is neat or completely stupid. The Wii Ultimate Power Station is a Wii and Wiimote dock that aims to keep everything organized and protect your console. It cools your Wii and has some extra outputs, will charge two Wiimotes and even hold the nunchuks. There’s even a clock.

But it seems like overkill and takes your thin console and makes it all beefed up and fat. We aren’t sure if there’s really a need for this. Or if it will even fit in the spots that our Wiis occupy. This one leaves us feeling kinda weird. What do you guys think?

BoomCooler: Stereo in an cooler

Posted in Outdoors by Conner Flynn on September 23rd, 2008

BoomCooler: Stereo in an coolerThe BoomCooler is exactly what it sounds like, a hybrid of a boombox and a cooler. Not to be confused by the BamCooler, which is how chef Emeril Lagasse keeps his tunes cool while shouting BAM. If you know a hillbilly or are a hillbilly, I think you found your next purchase. BoomCooler makes it easy to roll your tunes with you. You ARE the party. It sports two Sony Xplod 6” x 9” 240-watt max 4-way speakers, a 1100-watt max 10” Subwoofer and a 4-channel 600-watt amp. It’s also compatible with iPod, Sirius radio, MP3, CD and AM/FM radio.

There is however a slight catch. It won’t hold your beer. Dry goods only. Something tells me if you are buying this, you’ve got some contraband dry goods to put in it in place of your beer. It will be the best $900 you’ve ever spent. You can even sit your mullet-headed kid on it.

R2-D2 fridge keeps stuff cold as Hoth

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on August 27th, 2008

R2-D2 fridge keeps stuff cold as HothThis R2-D2 compact fridge is hot as tatooine outside and cold as the ice planet Hoth inside, so it will impress your friends and keep your food fresh. It was made back in 2002 as a promotional item for an Attack of the Clones contest held at 7-11 Stores in Japan. Apparently only 1000 of these rare refrigerators were ever made, making it a hot and cool collectible at the same time.

Luckily for you, you can buy one from Toyeast for $1070. Of course, that is probably your grocery money so you won’t have anything to put in it. Empty or not, you’ll have your own astromech droid. Now you’ll just need an X-Wing to put him in.

Droid gets decapitated, serves drinks to Jabba
One thing about R2-D2’s design that Lucas never anticipated was that it would provide so much versatility when decapitated. From the R2 ice bucket, to R2 speakers, this little droid loses his head all the time. I’m surprised he hasn’t been in a Highlander movie. C-3PO is the prissy effeminate one and he hasn’t had so much bad treatment.

Now headless R2 will serve you up some cold drinks as a USB cooler. It goes on sale August 8. All I know for sure is that somewhere there is a huge warehouse full of R2-D2 scalps. Some nerd will likely wander in one day and have a nervous breakdown at the horrible sight.

Thanko Cooler USB Keyboard

Thanko Cooler USB Keyboard
The way I see it, if sweaty palms are a problem for you, you can either keep a rosin bag next to your keyboard like Baseball pitchers use or you can get yourself a keyboard with air vents. Thanko has just such a keyboard, so stop being nervous and sweating through your hands already.

The Thanko Cooler USB keyboard works just like those bowling lane machines, with air vents to keep your hands dry. The built-in fan has a switch so you can turn it off whenever you don’t need it. Not sure how loud it is, but it will cost you $62.
