Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on October 3rd, 2010

Samsung Captivate owners are ready to get hold of the Android 2.2 update for their device, but AT&T hasn’t released the official update just yet. However, an unofficial Android 2.2 build for the Captivate has now surfaced, and it seems to be complete.

Once the UCJ16 firmware is in your phone, features like mobile hotspot, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, user interface improvements, and some other improvements will be available. The update is already available online, just be careful not to brick your phone with an unofficial firmware update.

Samsung to release Captivate GPS fix

By now it’s no secret that Samsung’s Captivate smartphone has had problems with GPS since the handset showed up, but now it looks like a fix has been announced and will be released within the next few weeks.

Apparently all Galaxy S class smartphones feature GPS which will give you problems, like being miles off your actual spot. Hopefully this fix will be able to track you the way you need to be tracked. You’ll have to wait for a fix for those other Galaxy S class devices.

It’s official, the Captivate, AT&T’s version of Samsung’s global Galaxy S line of high-end Android phones, will be available on Sunday, July 18 for $199 on contract with no rebate needed. That pricing is no surprise, since T-Mobile priced the Vibrant the same way.

All four US nationals are getting this device very soon and that’s pretty impressive for Samsung. Will you be getting one? Let us know why or why not.

Looks like ATT is finally getting serious about Android, with the Samsung Captivate, which will arrive in the next few months. The specs are impressive with a 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, a 1GHz Hummingbird that processes graphics3x faster than Snapdragon, a 5MP camera that can record 720p video, and up to 32GB of combined onboard and external storage.

It will ship with Google Search which is nice. We aren’t sure if Captivate owners will be able to download third-party apps, since AT&T so far hasn’t allowed this on their Android devices.
