Pole Climbing Bike Lock

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on November 29th, 2010

A team of bicyclists have come up with a great solution to bike theft with this pole-climbing bike lock created for Germany’s Conrad. We don’t know when this will go on sale, but the device straps around a light pole and carries your bike high into the air using a remote control.

Right now it’s way too big to carry around and what if someone puts their bike beneath yours? Once they work out those problems, it’s an awesome idea. As long as it doesn’t fall on someone.

GPS-enabled bike lock

This GPS-enabled bike lock tracks your bicycle, of course, but also protects your bike. It has to be attached to the rear area of your bicycle. Then with some help from third party mobile applications you can easily track down where your bike is and it can be used to unlock the bike itself.

What we like is that it saves you the time and energy that it takes to lock a bike when you need to park it. Now if only these Social Bicycles or SoBi were less noticeable.

Halo Bike Lock texts you when your bike is stolen

Summer. It’s a time of sun, fun, bikinis and…bike thieves. This concept from designer Steve Hunt looks just like a halo. It’s designed so that the connector cable is housed within the frame of the lock itself, which makes it harder for thieves to cut your cable.

The coolest feature however, is that Hunt wants to have an integrated wireless card inserted into the lock itself, so that when your bike gets stolen, the lock will notify you.
