Sony HD-PG5 500GB External Hard Drive

Hard to believe, but Sony has introduced its first external hard drive, the HD-PG5. This storage device delivers 500GB of storage on a 2.5-inch disk and allows users to connect devices via USB 3.0 or USB 2.0.

The device also allows you to record HD content directly from your Bravia TV. The Sony HD-PG5 500GB external hard drive should be shipping in the UK, France and Germany later this month. Hopefully it will reach us soon as well.

Loewe’s 3D television with 500GB of memory

German manufacturer Loewe is getting into the 3D television market, with its first 3D screen. It features great industrial design and is handcrafted and sculpted. The Full-HD LCD 3D television screen has LED backlighting and a 400Hz picture quality.

This set also offers a 500GB DR+ hard drive, so you can record and replay all of your 3D content easily. The screens are also available in just about any color finish you like.

Logitec launches new 500GB Slim External HDD

Logitec has just the thing if you are looking for a new external hard disk drive. You might want to check out the new Logitec LHD-PBG500U2W. This External HDD measures 75.5mm x 115mm x 13mm and has a noise level of only 18db.

This external hard drive will deliver 500GB of storage and is apparently Sony PlayStation 3 compatible. The Logitec LHD-PBG500U2W will be available in Japan starting next month for 9,000 Yen or about $109.

Hitachi ships thin 7mm 500GB HDD

Hitachi has announced that it is shipping its new and super thin 500GB HDD, the Travelstar Z5K500. This new HDD is a single platter drive that is just 7mm thick. An average 2.5-inch HDD is 9.5mm thick. This new size allows the Hitachi HDD to be used in standard 9.5mm devices and it can also be used in ultraportable devices that need a thinner HDD.

The drive also has low power needs with 1.8W in operation and 0.55W while idle. The drive is also quiet with 1.9 bels idle and 2.1 bels when in use. No info on pricing just yet.

Super Talent 500GB USB 3.0 Storage Pod

Super Talent’s latest USB 3.0 Storage Pod is an ultraslim black box that contains a 500GB hard drive. It will transfer files using SuperSpeed USB, which is about ten times faster than USB 2.0. And you won’t need a power adapter since it’s completely bus-powered.

The company claims that it’ll zip files around at up to 90MB/sec. If you like what you see, you can get one next month for $99. Not bad for 500GB and super fast USB 3.0.

Western Digital 500GB My Passport Essential limited edition designs

Western Digital’s 500GB My Passport Essential will now come in limited edition designs thanks to students at California State University, Long Beach’s Industrial Design program. The drives will come in Boom Box, Black Hole, Cityscape, Fuchsia Leaf and Wave decorative patterns.

Obviously these are targeted at students who want some extra style. The new drives are compatible with Windows and feature WD SmartWare software that offers a visual method for performing backups of your data via a single-screen view of the contents. There’s also user-selected password protection combined with 256-bit hardware-based encryption.

500GB PlayStation 3 coming, with new Wi-Fi, Move

An “industry source” speaking with games site CVG, says that Sony will release two new PS3 bundles this year, both including the PlayStation Move motion controller, and one of them featuring a huge 500 GB hard drive. One of the bundles will include a 250GB PlayStation 3 and the Move motion controller.

The other bundle will include a 500GB PlayStation 3 and the Move. That may be overkill. Then again, maybe Sony knows something we don’t. Maybe they have plans that take up a lot of space.


Seagate and Paramount pre-load movies onto 500GB FreeAgent Go drives

Seagate has just announced the latest FreeAgent Go USB 2.0 drive, a small external HDD with a 2.5-inch 500GB disc, with about 20GB that’s already claimed. That’s because Seagate has partnered with Paramount Pictures in order to pre-load these drives with Star Trek, which can be unlocked after you register the drive.

There are also 20 other titles pre-loaded, which can be unlocked through the online purchase of a license key, with pricing ranging from $9.99 to $14.99 per film. And if you aren’t impressed, you can always just delete them.

Sony BX Series BRAVIA TV gets built-in 500GB HDD in Japan

Sony Japan has released their first LCD TV with a built-in hard disk drive. The piano black BRAVIA BX series of LCD TV’s is known in the USA as the BX300 and is available in 32″ and 22″ models. But, the BX series recently debuted in Japan as the BX30H, available in 22″, 26″, and 32″ sizes.

And just because Japan likes to get things that we Yankees don’t have, They also have a 500GB HDD and are also available in white. Some other features include a 100,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, CCFL backlighting, 720p HD resolution, 60hz, 24p True Cinema, BRAVIA Engine 2, BRAVIA Sync and other common video features.
