Eton Soulra XL solar-powered iPod boombox now available for pre-order

Miss the old days when you had to carry a heavy boombox around for portable music? Well, now you can relive those days, with the Soulra XL, the solar-powered iPod boombox formerly called the Soulra 2. Its eight speakers are said to get very loud, and the company claims it charges twice as fast as its predecessor (just five hours) and lasts five hours on a charge.

It will also charge your phone, too. It weighs seven pounds and will cost you $300. You can pre-order it now.

The TRON movie hype may be over, but the products keep showing up. Monster has introduced this new powerful five-speaker 2.1 system inspired by the disc featured in the film. It’s called the Monster TRON Light Disc Sound Dock and it uses sophisticated microprocessors to individually control the Light Ring’s LEDs. And who doesn’t want shiny lights on their sound dock?

This device also features four high-performance drivers for ultra-crisp highs, a clear mid-range and extended low-end effects, while the down-firing subwoofer delivers room-filling bass. The Monster TRON Light Disc Sound Dock is compatible with iPods and includes a 3.5mm auxiliary audio input for additional MP3 players, laptops, desktops and other devices. Back in July of last year Paul Frank fans were able to buy this Paul Frank Julius Dance Machine iPod dock at Paul Frank retail destinations. Well, now you Paul Frank fans will be happy to know that they have now formally launched it with nationwide availability.

The dock is made by SpeakerCraft, well known for their audio and speaker technology, with or without a monkey. It will hit select US retail stores this month for $99.95.

Moto GP Helmet Sound System

For those of you who enjoy getting your entertainment through a helmet, check out this Moto GP Helmet Sound System. It’s a lot like this one. This one is built to look like a standard sized helmet, keeping your iPod (or iPhone) just behind the visor.

Your music will play through a pair of 7 watt speakers on the top and a 15 watt sub resides in the bottom. Other features include a USB port and SD card slot for playing music from another source. How much would you pay to use your device from within a helmet? This one will cost you $240.

Personal Genome Machine and iPod Dock

This is one serious iPod dock. It comes from a company called Life Technologies. It’s a new genome machine called The Personal Genome Machine. It’s actually made for research, not for your home, although I bet you want one now.

The device is about the size of a printer and weighs 65 pounds. A touch screen interface is used for testing and will deliver results in a few hours. Semiconductor sensors measure hydrogen ions produced during DNA replication allowing the machine to directly translate genetic information into digital information.


JBL On Air Wireless dock hits the FCC

The FCC has recently looked at the On Air Wireless dock from JBL. This device is the company’s first AirPlay-capable speaker dock. On Air Wireless will allow users to play from a docked iPhone or iPod, and also push audio over a Wi-Fi connection. It will also be compatible with your iPad or computer. All while looking like a toy steering wheel.

The device features a generous LCD display located on the dock that displays the current time, track info or FM radio station. We don’t know when this dock will arrive, but we will likely be seeing it at CES next month.

EFO Rechargeable Mini Loud-Speaker

Most speaker docks are sized for use in the home or office instead of on the go. So, EFO has announced a new speaker dock sized for portability. It even has a rechargeable battery inside. EFO’s Rechargeable Mini Loud-speaker is priced just right too, at just $22.

The lithium battery can power the speaker dock and charge your iPod, while the aluminum vibration film loud speaker is designed for sound quality. The internal battery is charged via USB and it also features a memory card slot and a USB port for playing music directly for removable media.

Kenwood launches CLX-70 iPod and iPhone Speaker Dock

Kenwood Japan has launched the CLX-70 iPod and iPhone speaker dock, which uses DTS Envelo speakers along with three-dimensional soundstage and is powered by a 30W amp. Connection options include the 30-pin Dock Connector, USB port, SD card slot and a CD drive that supports MP3 files.

The CLX-70 will play nice with the iPhone 3G, 3GS and the iPhone 4, iPod touch, second-generation iPod nano and the iPod classic. It will be available in three colors and will hit the Japanese market this month.

Speakal’s Cool iPig is a docking station for your iPhone and iPod Touch with motion sensors around the ears, sides, and nose that allows users to control their music playback. It comes with a remote control as well if you want to use that.

You know, because some people might not want to wave and gesture at their pig to play or pause music. It has built-in 23 W total sound power with a 15 W subwoofer and the battery is good for 8 hours of playback. It will cost you $150 through the end of the year and the normal MSRP is $170.


Yamaha TSX-140 iPod Speaker Dock wakes you gradually

Let’s face it, you have way too many iPod dock options. But this offering from Yamaha is stylish, powerful and should look good in your bedroom. Plus it will wake you gently. The TSX-140 desktop audio system promises to wake you gradually with the sound of your favorite music. It can fade in the music rather than simply jolting you awake.

It’s compatible with Apple’s iPod Touch and iPhone (3G/3GS/4), and it is also capable of playing MP3 and WMA files stored on a USB stick, as well as FM/AM radio programming.

Elecom iPod Shuffle Headphones

The new Shuffle is tiny, so Elecom’s Actrail headphones cut out the middleman, plugging the Shuffle in next to the right earpiece. Awesome design. You can only attach the current-generation Shuffle to the Actrails right now.

They’re available in pink or white for $50 in Japan, but it won’t be long until others copy the design and offer it up in the States. it doesn’t get more wireless than that.

The iDesign 2-in-1 MicroSystem for iPod and iPhone is a stylish dock for your i-device, featuring a sliding panel to protect it when docked. Interestingly, you can also play music CDs, but not DVDs.

If you want to watch your iPod or iPhone’s video on your TV or computer, just hook it up via a video out jack. The system can be mounted if you like and it also features an FM tuner with 30-station memory and built-in alarm clock.

JVC NX-TC7 iPod dock with 7 inch screen

The NX-TC7 from JVC Japan is an iPod dock with a 7 inch screen, CD player and a Radio. It will be available in white and black and the unit can playback Youtube videos from your iPod / iPhone on the 7 inch screen as well as images from a USB drive.

The speakers deliver an output of 15W×2ch and it comes with a remote control. It will be available in Japan by early November for 60,000 Yen (or $660).
