JVC unveils DSLR friendly HDTV

JVC has launched a new LCD TV system said to feature a color space that is wider than a typical HDTV. It is called the LT-42WX70 and it will be available this April at a yet as undisclosed price.

The JVC LT-42WX70 is a 42-inch HD LCD TV monitor designed for digital imaging professionals and those using high-end digital SLR cameras. JVC says it features expanded color space capacity encompassing 100 percent of HDTV broadcasting’s (sRGB.904) color space and a coverage rate of 96 percent for Adobe RGB. It also features 52 picture-quality adjustment properties for tweaking both still and video images source-by-source to the exact colors and tones the user prefers.

Panasonic unveils new LUMIX G digital camera

Panasonic rolled out this week a new Micro Four Thirds System digital camera with HD recording capability. It is called the LUMIX DMC-GH1.

Panasonic touts the GH1 as a “creative HD hybrid, offering professional-level still cameras and HD video performance” that is easy enough for entry-level DSLR consumers. Video can be recorded at AVCHD 1080p/24p video. It comes with a newly developed long-zoom interchangeable lens – the LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8 ASPH./MEGA O.I.S.

JVC debuts new Everio hybrid camcorder

The tech wizards over at JVC have on their hands today a new dual-use camera that shoots high definition video and high resolution digital still images. It is part of the company’s Everio line up and will cost around $1,000 when it debuts in June.

The JVC GZ-X900, or Everio X, is a all-in-one digital camera weighing around 0.66 pounds. It is capable of shooting both nine-megapixel digital pictures and also 1920 x 1080 Full HD AVCHD video. These digital media captures are recorded to SDHC memory cards.

Fujifilm this week debuted a high end new compact digital camera sporting a newly developed sensor. The camera is the F200EXR and the sensor is known as the Super CCD EXR.

The Fujifim F200EXR, pricing around $400, will be available this month. This special new sensor it makes use of is said by Fujifilm to provide “true image quality…a combination of many factors like tone, hue, color fidelity, dynamic range, sharpness, and resolution.” Other primary offerings on this camera include 12-megapixels, a Fujinon 5.0x wide angle optical zoom lens and a three inch high-resolution LCD.

Ideum debuts interactive museum tables

Ideum, a developer of computer-based exhibits and installations for North American museums, is rolling out an interactive table designed to grab the attentions of museum goers. This new MT Table is currently set to be installed at two museums in Amarillo, Texas and Birmingham, Alabama.

The MT Table, said Ideum, is designed to support multi-touch and multi-user interactions. It sports a 50-inch display surface which is touch sensitive and can support multiple users at the same time using hand gestures to manipulate images or media or to interact with computer-based programs.

MIMO Monitors delivers USB displays

Some new USB-powered monitors from MIMO Monitors are now available for those needing a supplemental display. The MIMO UM-710 and MIMO UM-740 are priced at around $130 and $200, respectively.

These new MIMO displays are both seven-inch secondary displays using a single USB 2.0 connection for both power and connectivity. They are designed to be portable and weigh around 1.3 pounds. They work with both Windows and Mac operating systems.

Samsung, T-Mobile announce 8MP mobile

Samsung and T-Mobile officially let slip yesterday word of an upcoming 8-megapixel digital camera mobile. It is the new Memoir (SGH-t929) and there’s no official word yet on pricing or availability.

The Samsung Memoir, said the two companies, is designed to look and feel like a regular digital camera. It has a built-in flash, 16x digital zoom and five shooting modes. It is also said to be easy to share photos taken on it with others via direct postings to popular online photo sharing Web sites.


Asus begins 1000HE Eee PC pre-orders

Asus is preparing to release into retail a new Eee PC netbook. This one is called the 1000HE and it retails for around $400.

The Asus 1000HE Eee PC, available in black or blue body colors, weighs around 3.2 pounds and is powered by an Intel Atom N280 processor which draws not too much power. Battery life on this netbook is rated for around 9.5 hours, made possible in part by a special power management feature called the Super Hybrid Engine.

Canton tunes up new Reference Series speakers

Canton is adding three new loudspeakers to its flagship line of Reference speakers. These new models, the Reference 5.2, 7.2 and 9.2, price for around $10,000, $7,000 and $4,000 per pair, respectively.

The Reference 5.2 and Reference 7.2 are three-way floor standing loudspeakers, and the Reference 9.2 is a two-way monitor speaker designed for pedestal mounting. Canton says these speakers are most notable for their aluminum oxide ceramic dome tweeters. This offers “a smaller dome radius and significant improvements in power handling and distortion characteristics.”

Orb Audio unveils stylish new speaker stands

Speaker systems manufactuer Orb Audio today added some new high grade speaker floor stands to its line up. The new TOSS model runs for around $220 a pair.

The Orb Audio TOSS (Tubes of Sculpted Steel) floor stands are handcrafted and consist of a diamond-shaped steel tube which is combined with a gentle curve for a nicer look. The 4-lb. radius laser-cut base is crafted from cold rolled steel sourced from what Orb says are U.S. mills. Speaker wire runs through the curved steel riser to the top and is hidden.

Silicon Mountain adds new LCD PCs

Allio Lite

The Allio line of converged LCD HDTV-PCs from Silicon Mountain got a new member today as the company unveiled Allio Lite. A 42-inch display model will cost around $1,600, while a 32-inch model retails for around $1,300.

The Allio Lite products are manufactured using the same 42″ 1080p and 32″ 720p displays as the standard Allio models and include the same selection of inputs and outputs as the original. The new models integrate an Intel Atom-based computer and DVD-CD player/writer.


Samsung rolls with compact all-in-one printer

Samsung introduced today for those in small and home offices a new mono-laser multi-functional printer. It is called the SCX-4826FN and it prices around $430.

The Samsung SCX-4826FN is a four-in-one product which offers print, copy, scan and fax features in a compact footprint. It is designed with a LED display that offers quick access to a variety of functions. Samsung says it is available now.

Bang & Olufsen rolls out BeoSound 5

Bang & Olufsen introduced today in North American its premium BeoSound 5 digital audio system. This little number, when available in February, will run you around $5,900 for the base unit, plus various other costs for accessories.

The BeoSound 5, said its maker, combines physical elements (such as an aluminum wheel and tactile buttons) with virtual ones (a laser pointer and a specially-developed graphical user interface) on a 10.4″ LCD display. It offers up a unique intelligent playlist technology scans one’s music library and finds similar tracks based on parameters such as sound, dynamics and rhythmic aspects.

Westinghouse readies 42-inch 1080p HDTV

Westinghouse Digital is getting ready to add a new LCD HDTV to is line up in February. It is called the TX-42F450S and it will retail for around $700.

The Westinghouse TX-42F450S is a 42-inch display which offers HD support for 1920 x 1080 resolution, or 1080p. It comes with a built-in ATSC/NTSC/ClearQAM tuner and sports a total of four HDMI connectors.

BFG talks up high end Phobos media room PCs

BFG Technologies recently announced it was now taking orders for its new designer PC for the home media room. This machine is called Phobos and, depending upon the configuration, can run around $8,000 and above for the top end model.

The Phobos is designed by BFG to be aesthetically pleasing, making it fit better into a typical home media room. It is outfitted with a touch panel LCD with touch over clocking and comes with what service the company feels is “concierge” level.
